For the former, a hankering can be sated with any old candy bar or cookie. But for the latter, nothing but the darkest chocolate, the lightest cream, and the freshest fruits will satisfy. This is the person for whom the meal really starts when the dessert menu arrives. Pastry chef Emily Luchetti is well known for her deceptively simple, and irresistibly delicious recipes. In CLASSIC STARS DESSERTS, she handpicked 150 of her very favorite recipes from her previous cookbooks STARS DESSERTS and FOUR-STAR DESSERTS. Luchetti's earlier cookbooks were coveted by home bakers everywhere. Here, you get the best of her best—recipes for puddings, pies, cakes, cookies, candies, and confections. You'll find recipes ranging from cherished classics to the exotic. Cinnamon Rolls and Grandmother's Chocolate Cake. Cranberry Linzertorte and Poached Pears with Walnut Cream. Triple-Striped Semifreddo and Maple Banana Compote with Ginger Ice Cream. How did Luchetti choose from her wonderful stable of recipes for this book? "These are the recipes I find myself making over and over—my tried and true," she says. "If it works, don't fix it. These are also the recipes that people have told me are their favorites." We asked Luchetti to recommend the perfect dessert to bring to different functions. Sunday Brunch: "What I would bring for this depends on the time of year. For spring, I'd bring the Goat Cheese Cake," she says. "It's not too sweet, a good brunch option. For another time of year, I'd recommend bringing a trifle. You can put it on the side and people can take a little bit." Baby Shower: "I would bring something people can nibble on," she says. "Coconut Macaroons or Ginger Cookies, for instance. At a shower, there's a lot of stuff going on, and people are likely to just want a bite of a bunch of different flavors." Retirement Party: "I'd advise against bringing anything too heavy," she says. "I'd go with more of a fruit-based sweet. If it's a sit-down dinner, I'd make a Chocolate Peanut Butter Terrine." We've included some of our favorite recipes to give you just a taste of what awaits you in this delightful cookbook. Click to find recipes for Frozen Kir Royale, Lemon Squares, and Gingerbread with Warm Apples and Cider Sabayon. Worried about your waistline? Take it from a woman who is around sweets every day. "Desserts are there to give you pleasure," says Luchetti. "Eat something of great quality, so it's worth all the calories. Remember portion control and go ahead and treat yourself."
